Ewatomi; Love isn’t lost in lust (part 3)

(cont from part 2)

“Ewatomi, love isn’t lost in lust.” Those were his words. The look on his face, that smirk, those eyes, that mischievous glint of success that was evident, flashing in Ewatomi’s eyes.

“You never loved me…You just…”

“Oh, please! For a princess, you’re dense.”

“Me?” her chest pounded, it was about to happen again…

“Ewa, your beauty is lustful, but if you want I’d say I loved you, after all, there should be some iota of love in lust, I guess.”

Ewatomi raised her hand to strike his face, but she controlled the urge. “You’re an imbecilic idiot! Love and lust are not to be used like that! Lust bows to love, you only used me for your insatiable appetite!”

“So? I’ve always held the believe that love is mere affection, and lust is to desire very strongly…Woman, I’m not in a position to ask for your hand, I’ve gotten what I want. To me, there’s some sort of love in lust because I had intense affection for your beauty, and status. Get it?”

That was when it began to happen. The flames in her eyes, at first, were blue. Alas! the ignition grew. Ewa gave her all to this commoner, and defied the Palace orders many a times to be with him. She even broke the rule of her ancestors. The words of her mother about being a virgin before marriage ate her insides, it felt like ulcer pangs – banging, biting, stinging, consuming and burning. Yes, burning…she had always controlled her anger. The one her grandmother, Ireti, taught her how to after she burned a whole Hut when she was reprimanded for talking back at a Chief… That rage, the one she accidentally used on her best friend, Oyinade when they argued over the outfit to wear for the Bata Dance Festival… But him? Him? She never thought in her wildest dreams that he could evoke her spiritual anger… And anyone who did that, faced the consequences.

Oyinade almost got burnt but was aware of Ewa’s powers before hand, so she quickly calmed her by saying those words Ireti taught them both.

The look on his face when she was aloft, broke strings in her. “Love is what you speak of like a cowardly beast! I gave you my all you son of a nobody! A princess who has given too much only to receive so little, is what you’ve made me!”

Her box braids began to grow spines and before a millisecond, they spun in big circles over her head.

“Ewa… Ewa, No… Please… I…. I am… I’m sorry!” he cried.

“To hell with you and your apology! Love is lost in lust, but springs up in love and love, love is genuine and true… Love is only lost in pure lust!” Her words came out thick, and they rumbled like thunder. She began to raise her arms and the air surrounding her blew a great deal. Her feet was firm as if she was on solid ground.

“All the words… All my time… All those gifts!” she pointed her finger at him and cried.

“No man cheats me and lives. I change your stupid saying that love isn’t lost in lust… It’s that, Love isn’t lost to lust, bastard!”

Then she looked at him one more time, he was holding on to the leg of a wooden chair, but it was hopeless. She was already possessed by that evil spirit she was born with and her grandmother told her it craved destruction and blood, all it needed to be summoned with, was her anger.

to be continued….

Cheers
