(cont from part 1)
With Giovanni in the lead us girls just followed on, went through green foilage and a canopy of coconut trees to emerge on a wide expanse of white sandy beach dotted with a few more palm trees and a couple of shrubs scattered at intervals as if thrown by God’s own hands to add flavour and enhancement! We stood there gazing at nature in the raw, trying to imagine how it must have been in the beginning. We walked along for a few minutes without talking, just absorbing the beauty of our surroundings until we turned off the beach unto a trail and gasped, each one of us with our hands to our mouth for the sheer dazzling, breathtaking view that presented itself to us.
Words alone are not enough to describe the scene that confronted us; an artistic hand and a poetic mind would probably bring it to life on paper, but for now we were going to be selfish and luxuriate in this isolated, perfumed world and loose ourselves! That those words would be literal, we did not know at that time! How could one know that the beauty that entices from the outside, would end up being a deadly device that would entrap us between a rock and the devil’s tide!?
We followed the trail that led us to an opening between a couple of large boulders and emerged into a cave-like entrance that was brightly lit by the sunlight through crevices above. It was just like entering a magical world. Spell-bounded we walk into the cave, admiring the dancing sunlight rays that were bouncing off the sides of the different colored rocks, forming rainbows and other wonderful shadow figures on the smooth wall. While walking we realized that there were different entrances leading to smaller caves and we wanted to explore all of them before we returned, we were a little bit apprehensive that if we did not see all of it, right at that very moment, they would disappear into nothingness when we returned; so under the influence were we of our surroundings.
